Qualifications

Gary Albright has been an art conservator in private practice since 2003.  From 1999-2003,  he was conservator at the George Eastman House, Rochester, NY, one of the premier collections of photography in the world.  Prior to that, he was senior paper and photograph conservator at the Northeast Document Conservation Center,  Andover, MA, where he was employed for almost 20 years.  Since 2003, Gary has been a visiting professor at the Buffalo State College art conservation program.  In 2010, he taught paper and photograph conservation for the Queen's University Art Conservation Program in Kingston, Ontario.  In 2017, he received the American Institute for Conservation's Sheldon & Caroline Keck Ward in recognition of a sustained record of excellence in the education and training of conservation professionals.   In addition to treatment and teaching, Gary has written well over 100 conservation assessments during his career.  These have included general assessments for the Conservation Assessment Program (CAP), as well as many focused on paper and photograph collections. 

Gary has been a conservator for over 40 years.  He graduated from The Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation with a Master of Science degree in 1978.  As part of his education he completed two internships, one in paper conservation at the Fogg Museum of Art, Harvard University, and the other in photograph conservation at the University of Delaware.  In 1979, he was a founding member and became the first secretary/treasurer for the American Institute for Conservation Photographic Materials Group, the only professional organization in the country focused on photograph conservation.
